Ontrack PowerControls Licensing Options
Ontrack PowerControls offers multiple licensing options in a variety of flexible configurations based on data capacity, license period, servers and simultaneous sessions.
All licensing models can be configured for use within Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint and SQL environments in any combination. Maintenance Services are required with each licensing model except some term licenses and subscriptions.
Subscription Licenses are configured for a specified data capacity or server count and operate on a yearly billing period, available for 2 or 3 year subscription terms. Subscription Licenses are designed for large enterprises with capacity needs starting at 7,500 mailboxes available in tiers of 5,000 mailboxes up through 100,000 mailboxes. 20 terabytes of SharePoint capacity is available as an add-on to the subscription price. Subscription licenses may not be used for commercial or financial gain including, but not limited to, using it for technical or consulting services.
Perpetual Licenses are configured for specific features and a specified data capacity to match the needs and size of your environment. Configurations begin at 100 mailboxes for Exchange environments, 0.5 terabytes for SharePoint environments and 1 SQL server instance for SQL Server environments. Perpetual licenses are not restricted by license period or number of simultaneous sessions. Perpetual licenses are ideal for those who are managing their own corporate production/development systems within their own establishments. Perpetual licenses are for internal use only and may not be used for commercial or financial gain including, but not limited to, using it for technical or consulting services.
Commercial Licenses are configured for specified data capacity for a specified license period and number of simultaneous sessions. Configurations range from one, two, or three year license periods including 1 or more simultaneous sessions. A one month license period is available to consultants and service providers working on a project for an end customer/client. One of our most common Commercial License configurations includes a one year license period with unlimited data capacity with one simultaneous session. Commercial licenses are easy to move around and are ideal for lab environments or mobile technician environments where you want flexibility that can be tailored to fit a certain project or other specific budgetary or usage cycle. Each Commercial License requires a USB hardware key (dongle) to operate. Commercial Licenses may be used for commercial or financial gain such as providing recovery, restoration, and ediscovery services to your end clients.
Term Licenses are configured for specific features, a specified data capacity or number of servers and a number of months to match the needs and size of your environment. Configurations begin at 100 mailboxes for Exchange environments, 0.5 terabytes for SharePoint environments and as low as 1 SQL Server instance. Term licenses are not restricted by number of simultaneous sessions. Term licenses are ideal for those who are managing their own corporate production systems within their own establishments. Term licenses are for internal use only and may not be used for commercial or financial gain including, but not limited to, using it for technical or consulting services
OEM Licensing is available to companies for integration into data protection, backup, storage or server/appliance solutions. OEM licensing includes features such as private-label branding and other customizations which can enable a more seamless and tightly integrated offering for you. OEM licensing requires a multi-year distribution agreement with minimum revenue commitments and can be customized to meet your needs with respect to product features, pricing model, distribution, fulfillment, reporting, and billing.
Mailboxes = The sum of all mailboxes contained in Microsoft Exchange database files (EDB and log files). Archive mailboxes and public folders are supported, but do not count towards the mailbox total.
Terabytes (TBs) = The sum of all Microsoft SharePoint content database files sizes including log files (MDB and log files)
Server Instances = The sum of all Microsoft SQL Server instances, virtual or physical for production, development, test, staging and QA environments for any year (2005, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, 2014, etc.) or edition (Enterprise, Business Intelligence, Express or Standard) of Microsoft SQL Server
The duration (number of hours, months or years) a license is configured to operate. The license period begins when the license is created and expires at the end of the specified license period.
The number of computers that can simultaneously operate Ontrack PowerControls when using a single license.
Local Licensing = License capacity enforcement only allows an Exchange EDB or SharePoint MDF to be opened each time if it is equal to or less than the licensed capacity (number or mailboxes or content database terabytes). This licensing method is also known as point in time enforcement.
Online Licensing = License capacity enforcement is cumulative for mailboxes or SharePoint terabytes each time EDBs or MDFs are opened. Once the cumulative count nearly approaches the licensed amount, the user is notified and they have the option to purchase a larger license. The PC or server running Ontrack PowerControls must have a connection to the internet for online licensing. See the user guide for more information.
Sales and Payment Terms
Terms/Type of License
License term: Perpetual Licenses are licensed on a perpetual basis. A Term or Commercial License may be used for the period of time noted in the Software Contract and may be renewed prior to the expiration of such term.
Maintenance term: Unless otherwise indicated herein, the initial term of Software Maintenance will commence upon the Date of Order set forth in the Software Contract and shall continue for one (1) year. Upon expiration of the initial term, Software Maintenance renews automatically on an annual basis unless Customer notifies Ontrack that Customer does not want the Software Maintenance to auto-renew.
Software Maintenance includes:
- Telephone and email support Monday-Friday, 7:30am-6:00pm Central Time (US), excluding major US holidays; and
- Access to online product knowledgebase for self-support.
- Customer agrees to pay the total amount approved in the Software Contract. Unless terms are provided to the contrary, payment is due and payable in advance of delivery of the Software. In the event terms are granted with credit approval, software purchases may be invoiced. In such cases, sums are due and payable Net 30 days from date of invoice.
- Customer can issue a purchase order, pay by company check, credit card or bank wire. Ontrack’s acknowledgment of Customer’s purchase order shall not be deemed or constitute acceptance of any different or additional terms and conditions contained within or accompanying such purchase order.
- License Fees are non-refundable.
Upon Customer’s approval of the Software Contract, the parties agree the Software Contract will be binding on both parties and Ontrack is authorized to proceed with electronic delivery of the Software.
Customer’s acceptance of the End User License Agreement (the “EULA”) that is embedded in the Software constitutes acceptance of the Software. Customer shall be licensed to use the Software under the terms and conditions of the EULA and in accordance with the Software Contract and any applicable user documentation.
